Vista Home Premium 64 bit?

  • I'm thinking about getting a computer with Vista Home Premium 64 bit installed. It has 4gb of RAM, and 500gb SATA hard drive. Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4ghz). What I'm wondering is:
What is the difference between the 32 bit and 64 bit editions of Vista? Will they effect my PC at all? Will I need to take the change into account when i (for example) play video games, or download programs?

  • Vista 64 is what I just got here and it takes some adaptations... 64 is faster and more secure but it's a memory hog. But it can handle twice as much ram as a 32, it makes up for it but there have still been quite a few frustrations.
ALOT of things are not going to work with it so do some research first.
Problems I have had so far is that transferring data between this o/s and something else does not really want to work. My Vista64 machine could see the XP SP3 but the XP could not see Vista! The only direct method I found for a network was bluetooth.
Another thing I found out was that my antivirus software does not work with 64.
Main problem is compatibility. This is going to be kind of like XP when it started, nobody wanted it.

  • 64 bit computing is somewhat faster than 32 bit, but allot of programs will not work with it so it is not advised to get the 64 bit OS and get the 32 bit OS instead.
